Membership: Helping at MSU Denver’s Fall Job and Internship Fair

I helped run MSU Denver’s Classroom to Career Hub’s Fall Job and Internship Fair, which is the largest career fair of the semester. I worked with Melissa, the events coordinator, who recently moved to Utah and was therefore unable to be here in person. I was the boots on the ground coordinator.

Leading up to the event, I designed a pamphlet for students and second for employer. The inside of the pamphlet was the same for both, with a table map and list of employers and their booth number. On the back of the student pamphlet was a list of majors each employer was currently hiring for. On the back of the employer pamphlet was pertinent event information, like wifi. The front for each was adapted from the event brand kit.

Printing materials was a last minute rush as we were still waiting on employers to confirm attendance two days prior to the event. Once we had final approval, I made sure employer information was updated in the pamphlets. I was able to program the printer to fold each pamphlet for me. This was huge as we were hoping for 600 students.

On the day of, I arrived on campus before 7pm to check the AHEC set up. Many tables needs to be scooted closer to the wall to allow for wider aisles to accommodate all of the students we were expecting. I had also organized bins with all the materials needed for the check in table, resume support, care center, welcome table, head shot center, as well as table cloths for hightops and catering tables. After the tables were arranged, I put each station bin at the appropriate station for volunteers to set up. Using the map I created, I placed table tents with employer name and table name at each table.

I was excited to see that Ibotta was attending the event. Someone I knew from HR came to set up the Ibotta table and I got to say. Later in the vent, I was able to greet the people running Ibotta’s table for the event – none of whom I had met before.

During the event, I greeted many of the employers and thanked them for coming. I also consistently did rounds between all of our booths to make sure everything was running smoothly. I provided back up coverage at the resume station and coat check when volunteers didn’t come or needed a meal break. In generally, it was clear the the C2Hub Industry Partners team are old pros at putting on these events. Everything went so smooth during the event

Overall, it was a very rewarding experience – although at the end of the day I was exhausted. I was grateful that clean up only took 40 minutes. At the end of the day, we had over 550 students attending, breaking previous attendance records by over 100 students. While I was more of a point person for employers rather than networking myself, it was great to meeting so many people and to be able to help provide such an important resource for MSU Denver students.
